Garden Railroading Primer @hallas.com
In year 2003 I started a garden railway project in G-scale. A small local line, with little engines, short cars, and tight curves, has been constructed to fit into the limited space. The theeme for the railway is an old-fashioned, 1000 mm narrow gauge steam railway inspired by the German Spreewaldbahn with 2 small Roundhouse live steam engines and few rolling stock.

Garden railroading is the combination of a model railroad and a beautiful garden to create a railway-like atmosphere.
G scale is essentially the modeling of 1000 mm narrow gauge railway (Gauge IIm) on track 45 mm wide - the same as gauge 1, but gauge '1' models are of standard gauge railways.
A "live steam" engine is one which is actually driven by steam which has been produced by heating water until it boils, just like the real full size steam locomotive. This is quite different to an engine that has the outward appearance of a steam loco but has an electric motor driving the wheels. G-Scale engines are big enough to make live steam practical, however only a small percentage of hobbyists use live steam Those that do are often nearly fanatic.
